Local Outreach

Supporting Families through Covid-19 School Closures

During the time MISD offers virtual education only, there will be many local families who need help juggling the demands of work and education. If you want to be involved in supporting our community, here are some ways you can help:

Opportunity Academy - Operated by Unlock Ministries/OpCamp, Opportunity Academy is for OpCamp Students.  Held at Golf Course Road Church of Christ, volunteers are needed as reading helpers, tutors and drivers for 2 to 4 hours a day.  Details can be found here.

Norman Elite Virtual Learning Camp - Operated by city councilman John Norman, this virtual learning camp will be held at Cuthbert Mansion (3207 W Cuthbert).  We've helped supply masks and hand sanitizer to the program, but they also need volunteers to serve as supervisors/helpers as children may have trouble logging onto their devices or with basic questions. Call 432-889-7074 for more information.

MISD Foundation School Supply Drive - Want to help get school supplies to be delivered directly to an MISD campus?  Purchase supplies through the Amazon wish list. You can select the campus of your choice and principals will distribute supplies to their students to support them in any kind of learning environment.  Financial donations will be used to ensure families have Wi-Fi connectivity.

We will add to this list as we learn of more opportunities!

First Presbyterian Church loves Midland.

Using our church as a launching point, we serve our community in a variety of ways including:

FPC Food Pantry | Our food pantry, in partnership with West Texas Food Bank, serves primarily Midland High families through a twice-monthly distribution.

Benevolence MinistryOur Benevolence Ministry at First Presbyterian helps individuals and families stabilize their lives by providing financial assistance and connecting them with other resources in our community.

School Support | Partnering primarily with Midland High and De Zavala Elementary, FPC supports our local schools through tutoring, Lunch Bunch and Soda Hour, and encouraging teachers.

First Presbyterian Church also supports the following local ministries. In some cases, our support is primarily financial and through prayer. In other cases, we have established regular volunteer opportunities as well (marked with a star).
